My Favorite Songs (will update over time)

COMPLETE January 2, 2026 (but will be updated as I fall in love with new songs)

UPDATES: A-C (June 21), D-E (June 24), F (July 4), G-H (July 6), I-K (July 13), L-M (July 19), N (August 16), O - Pearl Jam (August 23), the rest of the Ps (October 4), Qs (November 28), Rs (December 7), Ss and Ts (January 1, 2026), U through Z (January 2, 2026)

These are my favorites of all time (in no particular order).  They are songs that I could put on repeat and listen to over and over:

Prince deserves a whole set to himself because he is, by far, my favorite of all time.  If I could listen to nothing else for the rest of my life, these songs would be on my non-stop playlist.
  • Prince - "The Question of U" - While not my all-time favorite Prince song, it's one that is obscure enough that it was one he almost never played live.  He did a tour in the early 90s in Europe only called The Nude Tour where he played it and I was upset that for a decade after that, he played practically nothing from the Graffiti Bridge soundtrack because of what a big bomb it was.  When I finally saw him on a large stage for the Musicology tour in 2004, I was shocked and so overwhelmed, I literally cried that I was experiencing it, as silly as that sounds.  Knowing he never played on any other tour after that, or before, then died in 2016, I am so immensely grateful I got to hear it live.  One of the best nights of my life.
  • Prince - "Thieves in the Temple (the extended version)" - 12" extended/dance mix versions were a big thing in the 80s and early 90s, specifically on vinyl.  Prince did a TON of them.  Thieves is a decent song, but the extended version was MUCH better.  There's a whole set of extra lyrics that make it better, to me, so I am adding that version here.  I will do the same with Partyman.
  • Prince - "Partyman (the extended version) - See previous song.
  • Prince - "Girls & Boys"
  • Prince - "U Got the Look"
  • Prince - "Alphabet Street"
  • Prince - "Mountains"
  • Prince - "7"
  • Prince - "My Name is Prince"
  • Prince - "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World"
  • Prince - "Raspberry Beret"
  • Prince - "When Doves Cry"
  • Prince - "Let's Go Crazy"
  • Prince - "Batdance"
  • Prince - "Cream"
  • Prince - "Gett Off"
  • Prince - "Sexy M.F."
  • Prince - "Erotic City"
  • Prince - "The Beautiful Ones" (one of my top faves)
  • Prince - "Scandalous"
  • Prince - "Arms of Orion"
  • Prince - "Lemon Crush"
  • Prince - "I Wanna Be Your Lover"
  • Prince - "If I Was Ur Girlfriend" - (one of my top faves)
  • Prince - "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man"
  • Prince - "Anna Stesia" - Like "The Question of U," this song is one of those very obscure deep cuts that I wanted to hear live so much.  Luckily (again), I attended the "One Nite Alone" tour.  It was a night of his jazz material, but then he played a couple of catalog items at the end, "Anna Stesia" being one of them.  Another beautiful night.
  • Prince - "It's Gonna be a Beautiful Night"

  • Psychedelic Furs - "Pretty in Pink"
  • Public Enemy - "911 is a Joke"
  • Public Image Limited - "Disappointed"
  • Pulp - "Common People"
  • Quarashi - "Stick Em Up" - I dug the groove on this back in the early 2000s, but it hasn't aged well.  I'm not sure why I thought an Icelandic Nu Metal/Rap group of nerdy white guys wanting to channel Beastie Boys with Limp Bizkit would age well, but...
  • Quarterflash - "Harden My Heart" - I loved this group.  Hate that they never went very far. I loved Rindy Ross' voice and sax
  • Quarterflash - "Find Another Fool"
  • Quarterflash - "Take Me to Heart"
  • Queen - "Killer Queen" - I recognize the greatness of Queen, and there are songs I enjoy from them, including the overplayed "Bohemian Rhapsody."  However, this one I've consistently loved everything about this song. From beginning to end, it's magical.

  • Queens of the Stone Age - "Emotion Sickness"
  • Queens of the Stone Age - "The Way You Used to Do"
  • Queens of the Stone Age - "My God is the Sun"

  • Queensryche - "Empire"

  • Sinead O'Connor - "Black Boys on Mopeds"
  • The Sisters of Mercy - "This Corrosion"
  • The Sisters of Mercy - "Doctor Jeep"
  • Slaughter - "Real Love" - This was at the very end of hair metal, but a well produced Dana Strum tune that was reminiscent of their Vinnie Vincent "All Systems Go" sound, which I was a huge fan of those first two Vinnie Vincent albums.
  • The Smashing Pumpkins - "Siva"
  • The Smashing Pumpkins - "Zero" - When this was out, I wanted to be in a band that sounded exactly like this song. I couldn't have loved it more. The guitar work was magical.
  • The Smashing Pumpkins - "Ava Adore"
  • The Smashing Pumpkins - "Tonight, Tonight"
  • The Smashing Pumpkins - "The Everlasting Gaze" - MACHINA/The Machines of God is one of the best albums in the last 40 years, and by far the Pumpkins best. I could put every song from it on here. The rhythmic magic of Jimmy and D'arcy is peaked on this album.
  • The Smashing Pumpkins - "Raindrops + Sunshowers"
  • The Smashing Pumpkins - "Stand Inside Your Love"
  • The Smashing Pumpkins - "I of the Mourning"
  • The Smashing Pumpkins - "The Sacred and Profane"

  • Spacehog - "In the Meantime"
  • Spice Girls - "2 Become 1"
  • Splender - "Yeah, Whatever" - A perfect album. Produced by Todd Rundgren. However, as talented as the singer/songwriter who led this group is, his experience with Todd and on the second album turned him off from music all together.  He's in filmmaking now.  Such a waste of musical talent.
  • Splender - "I Don't Understand"
  • Splender - "Monotone"
  • Splender - "Space Boy"
  • Splender - "Supernatural"

  • Stone Temple Pilots - "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart"
  • Stone Temple Pilots - "Lady Picture Show"
  • Stryper - "Calling on You" - Considering I'm an atheist, it might seem strange that I have so many Stryper songs on my list. Well, I'm a sucker for the double-guitar sound, ala Boston (with which Michael Sweet ended up touring about 15 years ago), Robert is a great drummer, and their melodies are consistently high quality for that genre of music. The harmonies and musicianship sucked me in, independent of the messages.

  • Vinnie Vincent Invasion - "Ecstasy"
  • Voice of the Beehive - "Adonis Blue"
  • Voice of the Beehive - "Monsters and Angels"
  • W.A.S.P. - "The Idol" - Blackie Lawless had his silly moments in the hair metal days, but is genuinely one of the most talented, underrated artists from that era. "The Crimson Idol" is a perfect album. Ozzy hated him, but Pete Townshend loves him.  They are one of the few bands from that era to which I still listen.  While the themes from his 80s songs represent the debauchery of the times, musically, Blackie stood apart from that era.  The sheer structure of "The Crimson Idol" was the representation of his pure talent, all culminating in "The Great Misconceptions of Me," which combined all of the other songs on the album into one cohesive song. Still blows me away.
  • W.A.S.P. - "Hold On To My Heart"
  • W.A.S.P. - "Thunderhead"
  • W.A.S.P. - "Sleeping (In the Fire)"
  • W.A.S.P. - "Wild Child"
  • W.A.S.P. - "L.O.V.E. Machine"
  • W.A.S.P. - "Blind in Texas"
  • W.A.S.P. - "Inside the Electric Circus"
  • W.A.S.P. - "What I Am" (early pre-W.A.S.P song with Sister)
  • W.A.S.P. - "Forever Free"
  • The War on Drugs - "Pain"
  • The War on Drugs - "Under the Pressure"
  • Warpaint - "New Song"
  • The Waterboys - "The Whole of the Moon"
  • Weezer - "My Name is Jonas"
  • Weezer - "The World Has Turned And Left Me Here"
  • Weezer - "Holiday"
  • Weezer - "Only in Dreams"

  • Weezer - "All My Friends Are Insects"
  • Weezer - "Perfect Situation"
  • Weezer - "This is Such a Pity"
  • Weezer - "The Damage In Your Heart"
  • Weezer - "Freak Me Out"
  • Weezer - "American Gigolo" - Every song from "Maladroit" should be on here as it is a perfect album, and oddly enough, the two best from Weezer were produced directly by them: "Maladroit" and "Pinkerton."  They should stick to that. The albums are harder and more punk.
  • Weezer - "Dope Nose"
  • Weezer - "Keep Fishin'"
  • Weezer - "Take Control"
  • Weezer - "Slob"
  • Weezer - "Burndt Jamb"
  • Weezer - "Space Rock"

  • Weezer - "Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori"
  • Weezer - "(Girl We Got A) Good Thing"
  • Weezer - "Wind In Our Sail"
  • Weezer - "El Scorcho" - As mentioned above, "Pinkerton" is at the top of the Weezer catalog with "Maladroit." Both are hard, more punk, edgier, heavier drums, deeper Drop D sound, but both albums vary strongly with how that Drop D sound interacts with bass as Matt Sharp was still with the band on "Pinkerton."
  • Weezer - "Pink Triangle" - Probably my favorite Weezer song
  • Weezer - "The Good Life"
  • Weezer - "Tired of Sex"
